Unifor members at Zayo ratify contract with largest wage gains since 1980s

Unifor Local 2000A members have overwhelmingly ratified a new four-year agreement with their employer, Zayo, an American telecommunications company headquartered in Boulder, Colorado. The agreement, reached after rigorous negotiations, marks a significant milestone as they achieved the largest wage gains in nearly 50 years.

"Congratulations to the bargaining committee for their unwavering resilience throughout challenging negotiations, securing a historic contract that truly reflects the interests of our members," said Unifor National President Lana Payne.

The bargaining process posed its challenges, with the protection of the Defined Benefit pension plan standing out as a significant concern. However, through dedicated efforts and strategic negotiation, the bargaining committee successfully safeguarded this vital aspect of members' financial security.

The new agreement, effective January 1st of this year and set to expire on December 31, 2027, delivers substantial gains for 120 Unifor members across Canada, with most based in Montreal, Mississauga, and Calgary.

Notably, it includes wage increases of 5%, 4%, 4%, and 4% over the four-year period, marking the most significant wage gains since the 1980s. Furthermore, improvements in benefits have been secured to better serve members' evolving needs.

"I'm pleased to announce that our members have voted 89% in favour of accepting this new agreement," said Ian Morton, President of Local 2000A. "This deal reflects our commitment to securing fair wages, protecting our Defined Benefit pension plan, and enhancing benefits for telecommunications workers at Zayo."
