Online Webinars/Workshops

Greetings,

Until the end of June, Unifor is running many Webinars online. Please click on the link to view:

https://onlineeducation.unifor.org/

Last week an e-mail was sent out to all Locals with information on the Build Back Better sessions, but I am sending my e-mail as a reminder.  With all the incredible work being put into creating these, it would be great if all of these sessions were full to ensure maximum participation to these great workshops.

This pandemic has tested the limits of our already underfunded social services, and revealed cruel realities about government priorities.  I would like to encourage you to please take a look at the webinars and RSVP to the sessions you are interested in.

In solidarity,

Naureen Rizvi

Ontario Regional Director

Update from Local 2000A President

Hello Members

I just wanted to follow up on a few things and provide a few reminders to you since for the time being we are unable to have meetings in person.

1.  The collective agreement between the union and Zayo was officially ratified on May 6th and you should be receiving your 2 per cent retro pay on the June 11th pay deposit.  Please check your pay slips. Allstream members should have already received retro pay  on March 19 pay deposit

  1. The union sent a formal letter to 3 VPs at Zayo asking that members in Canada have access to the 6461 network, the union told the company that members are trained and willing to complete work on this platform etc. We are awaiting the response.
  1. The local union has contacted the Unifor constitutional office about the need for us to have a local convention to amend our local by laws that reflect the local better since we are now two separate bargaining units.  Due to Covid-19 we again cannot have any social gatherings and will see about having maybe a “virtual” convention.
  1. To follow up on point 3 the local requires new by-laws to hold new elections for July 1st, the local has asked the constitutional office for a 12 week day delay in holding the election.
  2. The local met with the pension administrator this week and we have asked the Unifor pension department to review the financial documents.  In the presentation the administrators mentioned that the plan over the past 3 months has been down and up but is now at the same point as of Jan 1st. (stable for now) Your pension statements should be in the mail sometime in late June early July so please be on the lookout for it.
  3. I have had meetings where the discussion has been about returning to the office, the union has told the company that no member should be going back in the current climate, too many members feel unsafe and not enough information has been provided about the provisions that should be in place to make it happen i.e.  Spacing, Personal Protection Equipment, Staggered Days, Cleaning & Sanitization etc.
  4. There will be a delay in having the new collective agreements printed once again due to printing shops being off-line during Covid-19.  In the meantime the new revisions of the collective agreement will be e-mailed to you.

As always if you have any questions please contact me, Stay safe.

Regards
Ian Morton
